Codeblack Redesign
by JadeCodeblack recently redesigned, and the first word that comes to mind is sleek. As was their previous design, the homepage again uses muted grays and blacks to make a solid statement and a great backdrop for multi-media presentations.
If you aren’t familiar with Codeblack they tout themselves as “the first on-demand network exclusively serving fans of black film. Our mission is to provide you with a superior selection of high quality programming that reflect the intellectual and cultural diversity of the black community. All available for you to watch instantly on your computer.”
CodeblackTV is perhaps my favorite part of the site. I love the layout, and while it has room for additional rows of videos, I am curious to see how it is going to look once their catalogue gets really big. It also seemed to be lacking a search function, but for now, that is ok.
The Codeblack store moves away of the sleekness of the homepage and TV part of code black, and I am curious about the orange nav bars. But it works. Perhaps later on they can come up with a design that is a bit more integrated with the rest of the site though so it doesn’t feel so much like a 3rd party seller site.
As with most sites there are a few small tweeks that were overlooked, the main one being the lack of player controls on the homepage flash. There is no option of having audio on or off or replaying it.
Add player controls to the homepage flash We possess a value that cannot be marginalized.
Another big thing is, as a welcome to users Codeblack set up a Scholarship Fund in partnership with UNCF. However, there is no landing page or section of the site to get information about the scholarship.
