In this episode of the Black Web 2.0 Show, we discuss content, the business of content, and entrepreneurship with Interactive One’s Chief Content Officer Smokey Fontaine. Smokey Fontaine has been a staple in the magazine industry for years, holding positions with such magazine giants (no pun intended) such as Vibe Magazine, The Source Magazine, and most recently Giant Magazine which was recently acquired by Radio One’s Interactive One.

Smokey is now responsible for what has been coined the largest reaching African-American on-line digital platform, with Interactive One’s catalog of websites including, the newly acquired BlackPlanet.com, the Urban Daily, NewsOne, as well as the advertising inventory for AllHipHop.com, and Radio One’s 50+ radio station websites.

Our conversation with Smokey covered his thoughts on the “Black Web Bubble”, the strategy behind Interactive One’s Black Planet acquisition, and his fascinating background in content production and editing.
