Help a Black Science Blogger Win Scholarship

by Fredric Mitchell Help a Black Science Blogger Win Scholarship

We’ve all been our soap boxes. Unabashedly pointing our fingers and accusatory voices at our counterparts espousing how we don’t support each other, how we need to do better, and how nice it would be if we had a Black President.

Well, we have one out of the three. Can we get another one?

One of our very own in our nice, niche blogging circle is up for a $10,000 blogging scholarship award and she needs our help. Danielle Lee (DNLee), who is a Biologist by trade, blogs over at Urban Science and YBPGuide. She consistently keeps us abreast of what is going on within the objective side of science, constantly advocating all of us to stay engaged and stay green.

From her entry:

I imagine I am training a whole host of young urban naturalists and future scientists. My objectives are to cultivate keen observation and critical thinking skills of my readers and help them appreciate the nature that has been sharing space with them all along. I believe urban nature appreciation is a gateway to environmental activism and responsible living, as well as an inspiration to pursue studies in ecology, conservation and science.

I am a Biologist and a Blogger; and I share Science.

Now, I will admit that I didn’t even know there were blogging scholarships, but the fact that she is a finalist is a true testament to her.

Let’s return the favor and vote for her!

Vote for Danielle Lee

Tweet the link, post about her nomination, and get your readers involved! Right now, she needs about 6000 votes to remain competitive. Voting ends next Thursday, November 20th. It looks like each vote is tracked by IP address, so if you have a work computer, home computer, iPhone, and Blackberry, that could be 4 votes!

We’ve finally got one out there doing great things, and now we, as a blogging community, through our various outlets, can enact change.

Hmm, where have I heard that before?

  • Im on it, this is outstanding news. I'll book her for a radio interview as well and get total strangers to kick in for the cause. I'm a big proponent of STEM+e (science, tech, engineering, math + environment) especially as it relates to getting more youth involved in aspiring for academics and careers in these areas. So we have to help her out!
  • That's good stuff dude!
  • thanks everyone, I really appreciate the support. you're the best!
  • I just dropped a link to vote on BlackBottom.com's main page (11/13); based on our traffic, you should see an uptick. Keep up the good work.
  • Ten years ago, when I was starting college, I was really worried about the money and I didn’t want to place that burden on my parents. Because during high school decided to start searching for more scholarship.
