Celebrities Using Twitter Revisited

by Liz Celebrities Using Twitter Revisited

Britney Spears joined Twitter earlier this week and it sent quite a ripple in the world of web/tech nerds. Some argue that Britney’s presence on Twitter signifies the beginning of the popular miroblogging site going mainstream. We argued this previously, when we noticed Karrine Stephans was not only on Twitter, but avidly promoting it to her fans through her numerous communication channels.

A few people in the blogosphere noted that Britney’s Twitter stream appears to be heavily controlled by her web or PR team, and thus is less authentic. It would be great if Britney were actually tweeting, but I am not getting my hopes up waiting for that day to come. While social media is about conveying transparency, nerds people must remember Twitter isn’t the  easiest thing for newbies to understand. In addition, some celebrities are a culmination of marketing, ego, insecurities, and everything in between. The transparency opportunity via Twitter throws a wrench in this system, and some will stumble around in the dark for a bit. For example, Twitter is not the place to blatantly advertise yourself or your brand nonstop (yes, I am calling you out Tyler Perry). Furthermore, the superstars of yesteryear depended on the mystique of living their regular lives in relative seclusion, compared to today’s obsession with Celebrity TMI.

I often try to shy away form telling people exactly how they should use Twitter, because it all depends on who you are, what your brand is and your level of time commitment. Twitter truly is what you make of it, and user habits are always evolving. Would I like Kanye West to tweet more about what he’s up to? Of course. However, I would probably think less of Kanye if he was tweeting 50 times a day: shouldn’t he be busy working or being the Louis Vuitton Don instead of talking to people all day on Twitter? There’s definitely a balance, especially for those in the world of the rich and famous.

    Good evening,
Peace and blessings to everyone. I have a story to tell you, and a question to ask. My name is Cheryl Brown-Avery, and I'm the author of Summers to Remember and Where it all Began. You can check me out online at Amazon or Barnes & Noble. My story begins after the publication of Where it all Began in Oct. 2008, everything was going well until one cousin from my home church purchased a copy two weeks ago. Both books are about my life story, growing up on a rural farm during the early 1960's in North Carolina. After my cousin read the book, she shared it with her sister and several church members. Chapter 6 was written to open the eyes of people who attend church and then talk about their fellowman after they leave out the church doors. I called these people "Churchwatchers." I never mentioned the name of the church nor any members names of the church. Anyway, the sister who read my book, began trying to guess whom the characters were in the book. She went as far as taking her accusations to the church Pastor, Deacon Board and other members. None of the church members, Deacons or Pastor read my book. They listened to this lady and the next thing I heard was an emergency Deacon meeting called, then an official dismissal letter was thrown in my face by the Pastor. My reputation and book have been slandered by church persons. My book ridiculed by them. This is a family church, uncles, aunts, cousins, etc. The heat from their chaos will be carried over into court. It's a sad shame for family to have that much hatred to cause confusion within any church. My question to all of you, Do I have freedom of speech according to the U.S. Constitution? Remember, no church name or member names are in the book. The church officials assumed I'm discussing them?

hello Cheryl Brown- Avery. Hello and Greeting in the name of our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I have just read your story about what happened with your book. I am a young writer myself just starting out. What the church members have done to you scares me to death. I pray that God will keep you in his constant care because even though we do have freedom of speach, people get mean sometimes. You are no doubt very intelligent and blessed by God to write. I haven't read any of your books yet but I don't have to know that you are somebody by the way you wrote about what happened with your book. Only God can protect us from this world and the people in it. You should no doubt send your books to Tyler Perry. I to am trying to get in touch with the talented writer and movie producer. I believe he could tell the world about both of our experiences and the books we have writen can become movies. Please I don't know what to do now I need someone to help me also with my book The Gates of Jubilee. please write me my email address is lady_crystaldancer@yahoo.com I feel we could be of help to each other please drop me an email if you would soon. Thanks and God Bless you. I be waiting for your email message.

Cheryl, I have always beleived that you have a lot of talent, but I am verry surprised as to the way you are dissintergrating your family and church all for money. Just remember money is the root of all evile and with what has happened since your book come out has spoken for it's self. You are disgracing your uncle, cousin and the whole church. Cheryl remember that a poison pen can kill the writer just as easily as it does the subjects of your writing. Fact, Fiction or Illusion can and will create confursion, if not written properly. You need to think about what you have already done.

Michael it is a pleasure to listen to you everyday on the radio. . I used to live in L.A., and I attended a couple of your seminars that were promoted by KJLH, with Cliff & Janine (I have 3 of your books, but I was never able to get them signed, hint). You were fanstastic!!
I want to comment now about Etta& Beyonce. I can understand Etta being a little upset, but I don't think she should have made the comment ; however, I don't feel she needs to personally apologize to Beyonce. I haven't heard an apology from Beyonce to Janet Jackson (if that 'rumor' is true, that she called Janet 'lower class" and that her dad 'pimped her & her brothers). Beyonce would not be where she is if her dad had not "pimped" her. It takes hard work and a lot of discipline to nurture talented youth and I believe that is what both sets of parents did for their children! So Beyonce (I have always loved Janet, but in the past couple of years or so , I have become a fan of Beyonce) you need to remain humble and don't get 'too full of yourself or you will start losing fans. We all really love Janet and her brothers!!
Thank you for promoting the election last year and encouraging 'us' to vote! Also, I have noticed that a lot of 'political analysts seem to have a problem referring to Mr. Obama as 'President Obama'. It really bothers me when they continually just say "Obama" this or "Obama" that. They need to be reminded that he is the president and has earned all of the rewards, respect, regard, etc, etc that comes with that position! ' Whoo, it feels good to get all of this off my chest! Love you, Michael. Bea4Obama in TX.

There is a good site that follows all these celebrities on Twitter. http://www.celebritytweet.com Britney and Brea Grant are on there.
  • I actually commend Karrine Steffans on her twitter usage. She actually takes an active role in communicating with her followers, but also realizes when to draw the line when it comes to them asking her personal questions.

As far as the Britney/Tyler Perry, buy my music, watch my movie Twits, they can be quite annoying b/c people already know they probably have no idea what Twitter is, and it's basically be ran by some non-paid intern.
