What all of us thought was a pretty stupid and offensive idea a few days ago with the N*ggaspace.com acquisition may just yet prove us all wrong. In exclusive information provided only to Black Web 2.0 by Urban Communications, we got the scoop on exactly why the site was acquired and what plans Urban Communications has for the site. Urban Communications will be making the official statement later this week.
Urban Communications will officially launch the “Keep or Kill N*ggaSpace 2008?” campaign sometime in October. “Keep or Kill N*ggaSpace 2008″ is an online election that will determine the ultimate fate of the recently acquired site.
“African Americans love or hate N*ggaSpace.com, there’s no middle ground” said Robert Butler, Marketing Director, (UC). “Collectively we thought that a democratic election by internet users should determine whether n*ggaspace.com is abolished or whether it will survive to upload again.”
“Urban Communications is not a media company that force- feeds users content and dictates what people see and what people do,” said Kenny Clash, President, (UC). “Urban Communications is a Technology Company whose mission is to provide a premier platform for users to relate and create relevant social content and media.”
Voting for “Keep or Kill N*ggaSpace 2008” will be held via online-ballot located at N*ggaSpace.com or for those of us who can’t bare to send a pageview or unique at KeeporKill08.com. Online ballots require name and email. Upon the collection of 2,000,000 votes, Urban Communications will terminate or reinforce N*ggaSpace.com’s online presence.
Personally, I value UC’s initiative to allow users to be responsible for the sites demise or existence. And creating a seperate domain shows that this strategy was clearly thought through, I have to give credit for that. However, the bigger question is what do you think? Will you vote to Kill or Keep or even spend time to vote at all.
