Bishop Weeks launches Reality Webisode to find new Wife

Relationships among black people seems to be big business online, or at least, people think it is, based on the number of sites you get with a simple Black Dating Google Search. There is a YouTube channel called GurlTalkkTV dedicated to examining things related to black relations (warning, click at your own risk as some of the stuff is NSFW that is discussed).

Even Black Voices has a love, dating and relationships section. The two major mainstream dating sites (meaning the ones all over the TV) don’t target the black community, though match.com does have a black singles section link on their homepage down in the footer. Still, most people on that section aren’t black.

So, what is a Bishop to do, when his wife divorces him and needs a new one?

Email Blasts, Podcasts and now an Online dating show featuring live chats, video, online letters, plus a companion book. I know, it sounds Oprah-esque, but it isn’t. No. It’s Bishop Weeks. While Weeks’ webisode, “Who will be the next Mrs. Weeks” is not brand spanking new (we first caught wind of it last week) the site that serves as a platform to get his Love Locked Down is.  They just launched their redesign yesterday.

If his name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s the former husband of Televangelist Juanita Bynum that was arrested for assaulting her in a parking lot.

Excerpts available Friday included Weeks, 41, discussing with aides what he should look for in his third wife.

The group concludes the woman should be at least 25 years old but “with special exemptions for 21 and up if they are classy,” Weeks said. She also must want to have children with him.

“This woman has to be very discerning, and very intimate, and very social and very sensual,” Weeks says, laughing. “And on the ministry side she has to be very diverse. She can’t be ugly.”

The apparent goal is to give people a Christian Perspective on dating.

While I respect Weeks’ game internet game, I can’t help but be creeped out a little. Still, black dating online is an interesting over-saturated niche market, with no one quite doing it right (thus no real clear front runner). Though I feel personally that the church in the greater black community is losing some of its cornerstone status, it is still a big offline social networking entity, so this intersection of online media, dating, and church is something to keep an eye on.
