Palm Treo Pro

Palm Treo Pro

I have to keep up with the countless announcements of new cellphones, in previous years this wasn’t so hard, nowadays forget it. Yesterday, Palm announced their newest model a windows based version called the Palm Treo Pro. I have personally recommend 3 different phones for people who need to get business done via phone. They are the iPhone, Blackberry, and the Treo. So what does the new Palm Treo Pro bring to the table? Well outside of the $550.00 (ouch) price tag, it offers a slimmer design (Palm claims it’s the slimmest of all Treo phones offered), built-in GPS capabilities, a 2-megapixel camera, a 3.5mm headphone jack, 1-touch Wi-Fi button, a 320 by 320 pixel resolution touch screen and a new voicemail indicator that  lights up the middle button if you have a voicemail waiting (sounds like a nice touch, no pun intended :-) Some of what I love about the Treo line is staying, like the SD expansion slots, the new Palm Treo Pro has a microSDHC memory slot supporting up to 32GB cards-YES 32gig cards! I’m a QWERTY keyboard type of dude, so I’m happy to hear they are keeping that functionality, QWERTY keyboards are great and in my opinion for women with fingernails QWERTY keyboards are much easier to type on than on-screen keyboards like the iPhone.

The phone is not due in stores until September. They have not listed carrier partners yet, which means the phone won’t have any subsidized pricing which is probably one of the reasons the price so high. There is no CDMA version (sorry Verizon or Sprint loyalists) the phone will be unlocked and available on GSM. This release will be interesting to watch not for Palm but more for Microsoft who has notoriously struggled with gaining mobile OS share over Blackberry. I’ll keep ya posted on any updates.

  • GREAT REVIEW!!! $550 is a HUGE OUCH!!! It looks like the Iphone has some competition. I knew a Windows based phone would come sooner or later.
