For the digeratti of us all up in Tweetspace, that’s Twitter for those not in the know, Q-Tip of the legendary A Tribe Called Quest just unleashed a tweetstorm on SPIN magazine over there. And no, I couldn’t find a better way to capture “Shits on Spin,” and converging shits with tweets — well it could have been twits, but that’s an entirely different thing.
Appears he’s heated about a recent article in the magazine, that also appears on the magazine’s site, which starts off with:
“After Q-Tip transformed hip-hop with A Tribe Called Quest, he endured solo exile and ran the celebrity gauntlet. Will he now be accepted back as an MC elder? He’s prepared, regardless. “I take what I do seriously,” he says, “But it’s a lighthearted seriousness.”
To see a bit of his tirade, which includes such commentary as, “FUCK SPIN MAGAZINE!!” check out Q-Tip on Twitter or just click the link below to see a full screenshot of his rant.

The new tools of communication have greatly increased the opportunities that artists have for speaking directly to their fans. The Q-Tip example is just one of many to come as more of these methods of communication open. He was able to instantly put out there his side of things without even having to go to the SPIN space to do so. It’ll be interesting to see how the overall conversation plays out.
