Google, for the second year in a row, sponsored the sixth Annual Spelman College Computer Science Olympiad. The Olympiad consisted of 16 teams from eight Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs), or Association of Computer/Information Sciences and Engineering Departments at Minority Institutions (ADMI) competing in five computer science-related events. One of the events consist of an assignment to build an interactive, creative and useful Google Gadget.

Google chose first, second and third place winners, whose gadgets will be uploaded to the iGoogle Directory soon:

  • First place: Morehouse College Team 2 (Lawrence Forrester, Kevin Walton, Mark Slade, Michael Davis)
  • Second place: Old Dominion University Monarchs (Duc Nguyen, Cesar Barbieri, Darrin Lee, Nicole Jackson)
  • Third place: Spelman College YOMamaBoards (Jonecia Keels, Jazmine Miller, Paige McReynolds, Arielle Baine)
  • Congratulations to all of the participating teams.

The overall Grand Champion team in the Spellman College Computer Science Olympiad was Hampton Team B, from Hampton University. This team consisted of all first-year (freshman) college students, and their names are Gheric Speiginer ( me ), Jessica Nicole Jones, Conrad Owen, and Blaize Kelly Blackmon. We won first place in the cryptography and second place in robotics. I just figured we deserved some small mention in your article.
