There has been lots of buzz around InteractiveOne, a RadioOne company that plans to focus on interactive web media. Many of us have been wondering what exactly is InteractiveOne and what plans does RadioOne have for it?

I recently noticed there are actually a few sites out there from InteractiveOne that are either in Beta or will launch soon, lets run down them:
News One

Appears in blog format and seems to cover National, World, and Entertainment news. Seems like a strange mix however they are in Beta and I am sure features and categories will be added during this period.

The Urban Daily

This is one of 2 sites that are under construction and “Coming Soon…” I am not positive on exactly what this will be but my guess is it will also be in blog format and act as the Entertainment “channel” for News One.

I am guessing the same for the other site named Hello Beautiful that also appears to be “Coming Soon…” the only difference is this will focus on what would probably be seen as their Lifestyle channel.

OnOne

While the other sites are beautifully done and appear interesting the piece that ties it all together is the most intriguing. Formally named OnOne it is described on their site as:

the premiere social network of Radio One, Inc. The connecting force between our established communities which include Giant Magazine , Radio One Network, as well as our newly launching The Urban Daily, and News One

It looks like OnOne will take the social networking route and use its various platforms across mediums to connect their audiences. For instance Giant magazine readers will be able to network with RadioOne station listeners or TV One viewers may be able to network with users from OnOne or News One. OnOne’s membership may not be as robust considering they are in Beta, before yesterday this may have been a major consideration but since RadioOne purchased Community Connect yesterday for $38 million it is not an issue. They will inherit about 20 million web users from Community Connect’s properties some of which include BlackPlanet, MiGente, and AsianAve.

With this very strategic move RadioOne could easily surpass BET, unlike BET their reach will extend to radio, TV, and web. I am sure mobile will be on the horizon as well. Though BET’s brand is undeniable RadioOne is beefing up and could pack a heavy punch.

Note: The statements in this post are purely speculative and just my thoughts, they do not reflect nor confirm InteractiveOne’s actual web strategy.
