Remembering Dr. King
by Markus RobinsonToday marks the 40th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was assassinated, as he stood outside of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee in 1968. He was 39. Media sites and blogs all over, honored Dr. King’s life and legacy through touching articles, thought provoking poll questions, and video and image galleries.
We have compiled the best web coverage of the 40 year anniversary of Dr. King’s death.

1. Black Voices’ coverage of Dr. King’s memorial was a visually appealing infusion of AOL’s proprietary applications, stunning imagery, and thought provoking commentaries delivered in a very appealing package. Black Voices utilized AOL Radio, which streamed audio of Dr. King’s speeches and music inspired by Dr. King’s life, as well as embedded slide shows that showcases a wonderful collection of photographs of Dr. King, family, and friends to extend well put together articles and content.
2. CNN’s coverage of Dr. King’s memorial featured a segment called “A moment frozen in time: witnesses recall King’s death“. This segment included an interactive flashed based map of the area in and around the Lorraine Motel in Memphis TN. Each includes interactive pegs which contain video, slide shows, and commentary from friends, family and witnesses of Dr. Kings assassination.

3. Time Magazine’s coverage, Martin Luther King: An Assassination Remembered, included a piece called the “The Last Four Remember”. In this article Time spoke with Andrew Young, James Bevel, Jesse Jackson and Samuel Kyles, the the last living aides of Martin Luther King, Jr., each of which within ten feet of Dr. King, seconds before his death. This touching recap is followed by an article written byMichael Eric Dyson article entitled “The Burdens of Martyrdom“, a look into how Dr. King’s death may have helped define his legacy.

4. The Root’s tribute to Dr. King, “Still Searching for the Promise Land”, takes a look at the impact, past, present and future of Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy. The Roots coverage, where it lacked in design was well compensated with its rich range of content. The Root also included a collection of in-depth interviews with the ever-so-enlightening Dr. Michael Eric Dyson.
