QTRAX- All Talk, and no Music

Qtrax, a legal P2P digital music site, was all set to make headlines today. The New York-based company spent nearly $1 million on promotions at MIDEM Universal reported having been in discussions with Qtrax, but representatives said there was no agreement in place. Sony BMG, Warner Music Group, and EMI also denied licensing music to the company. Qtrax officials, pushing the old “the ink isn’t dry yet” position, insisted that they hadn’t hustled anyone (there must have been humidity in the room or something.) “We are not idiots. We wouldn’t have launched the service in front of the whole music industry unless we had secured its backing. We feel we have been unfairly crucified because a competitor tried to damage us. Everyone is very upset,” CEO Alan Klepfisz said.
Sounding a bit like Baghdad Bob, Klepfisz maintained, “We do have industry agreements including the major labels. Even today we are working on more deals.”

As of 4:19 PM PST yesterday, the company website included a Red Hat Linux test page. This seems a bit odd, since the service reported using Windows DRM, and only supporting Windows users. You would that the site would be hosted on a Microsoft server then. Maybe another company’s web services are bing used, like IPNS, and invoking those web services using PHP. We will dig deeper into this once the company representatives can be reached for comment.
