Surface is off the hook. I got a chance to see this up and close in the Microsoft booth at CES. Combining AJAX, and Silverlight makes for a very rich UX. We are build some very interactive cross platform UI's for some media projects, with Silverlight we can build help our clients which have tons of content in Windows Media format already deliver in a 100% customizable browser player. Save times and money in buying transcoding gear or services to simply accomplish browser based streaming (like Flash with ON2 Codec).

Nice right? On first look it reminded me of the iPhone but as I delved into Microsoft's website for Surface. I quickly realized it was more than that. Yes it is a great product but similar to iPhone what makes it a great product is the interactivity and the user experience. How can this user experience translate onto the web as we know it today. One can get quite creative using technologies such as Flash, a couple of examples are Jooce and Schematic. Flash can be problematic since the plugin needs to be installed however using an alternative such as AJAX to add subtle user interactivity and slick transitions can add to a UX.
