BET Launches African-American Advertising Network

By Markus Robinson | Tue, Jan 8, 2008 1:13 pm

BET
Perfectly aligned with our “2008 Predictions in Black”, BET Digital Media Group launches an African-American targeted advertising network. The network, which currently has 30+ premium content sites, is focused on music, entertainment, and lifestyle content relevant to the urban and African-American communities. BET’s advertising network allows advertisers to easily target African-American consumers while giving publishers increased revenue opportunities.

“By joining BET’s vertical advertising network, publishers will gain access to high quality branded advertising, with the network allowing them to target campaigns most relevant to their audience”, said Denmark West, President of BET Digital Media Group. “The BET vertical advertising network offers a compelling solution for sites that have a large scale of premium inventory but don’t necessarily have a sales force to match.”

  • This is a huge move for BET. The real game in online publishing is who can attract and manage advertisers. Overnight BET has the major player
  • What would be interesting to know is what the 30 sites are in the advertising network, that would really tell us the value of this play. Complex and Rawkus have networks, but I don't think they'd be able to compete in eyeballs with a BET network regardless of who's in the network.

    I agree with you both.

    @Lynne:
    I would also like to know the 30 sites in the network if only just to simply see the quality and type of ads served. I am also curious about the criteria for publishers in the network and hoping that this will be open to all and not only to "premium content publisher." There is an overwhelming need for something like this and could only benefit BET to open the market up. On the other hand I do understand the need to somewhat screen publishers, especially with a brand that holds so much weight in the culture. I also am curious as to what encompasses "relevant lifestyle content." We shall see...
  • Today's internet is geared to be an advertising machine. The only way to be successful is to advertise, have ads on your site or start an ad network.
  • I think it is a needed service service! But what's up with people like Carol Williams Agency, and all the other top BE Ad agencies? I can't tell you how many times I have took interactive media projects to them, and they have slept, or not even responded.I guess it takes someone like Viacom stepping into your space to and driving up the valuation in potential acquisitions you need to grow your business for them to wake up.

    Someone needs sit them done and show them EPIC:

    We are a publisher in their network. After several months of doing our best to maximize results, we are about to pull the plug. Revenues though them never took off. They have less than 15 advertisers on their network. No ad relevance whatsoever, really disappointing.
  • My best friend has said the same thing... There is no inventory now...
